With a new coaching staff for the Track and Field sport the athletes and new staff are excited for the upcoming season
As winter comes to an end and spring is underway, the new track and field staff and returning athletes are looking forward to a competitive season.
“I think with the new coaches for distance it brings us a lot more potential and a lot more knowledge when it comes to track,” senior Zachary Sweeney said. “I’m just looking forward to the team, we have some really good runners this year got some potential and some guys that could go to state.”
In order to be prepared and competitive the team has been practicing throughout Spring break to keep the competitive edge. Monday thru Thursday the team meets at various times to train and better themselves for the first upcoming meet. Athletes have already started setting goals to make them better throughout the track and field season.
“ I’m hoping to go to state for the two mile,” junior Jessie Define said. “I set goals before the season like what my time should be like before the season and try to keep cutting time each time to get to state.”
New Distance Coach Joe Brocksmith is excited to be apart of the track team and hopes his coaching and his team are similar to the Cross Country season.
“I think one thing that will be kind of unique that hasn’t happened in several years is the fluentness between cross country and track because this is the first time in six years that the distance kids have the same coaches for track and for cross country,” Brocksmith said. “So hopefully the consistency between how I coached cross country will carry over to track and the kids will be kind of used to it and that will make them better athletes.”
Brocksmith hopes the biggest accomplishment this season will be that the runners become better athletes and are strong competitors in the meets to come.
