Cross Country Holds Awards Banquet

With the Fall Sports season at a close, another Cross Country season has ended with it. To celebrate, Cross Country Coach Sean Fowler hosted a banquet for the runners.  The banquet took place on Tuesday Nov. 19 in the Commons.

“The banquet was to reflect on the awesome season we had,” senior Alexis Happe said.

At the start of the banquet, runners entered the commons and were able to eat food that the parents had brought. They also hung out and talked to the other runners.  Coach Sean Fowler did an introduction speech to get the banquet started. After that he started presenting out awards for each of the grade levels as well as individual awards such as Best Newcomer award, MVP award, and the newest award presented, the Golden Hammer award. Then once the runners sat down the seniors were able to give their speeches as well as having the seniors receive the gifts from some of the runners. Once that was done Mr. Fowler did the final speech to end off the night. Then the runners did a picture session to take pictures and selfies with each other.

“It was emotional,” senior Ean Thielbar said. “We are best as a team with my friends in it. It was hard to say goodbye.”

The speeches was the biggest part of the banquet for the seniors they presented.

“They were all from the heart,” Thielbar said. “I’m thankful for the team and coaches. It was a reality check for a few of them. There was a lot of tears during the speeches.”

Sophomore Jake Oppenborn also liked the speeches.

“I couldn’t believe how bad the seniors hated to leave,” Oppenborn said.

Overall, the banquet was a success. Tears were shed as well as smiles to be seen. It was a great way to end off the past season.

“The banquet went well for everyone.” Oppenborn said. “It was hard to lose good runners, but we just have to keep improving for next season.”
