Saturday Nov. 23 some students in Senior National Honor Society (NHS) will be getting up early sacrificing some precious sleep to help give some children a better holiday season. Students are to meet up at the flagpole in FHN’s parking lot at 7 a.m. From FHN they will carpool with other students and begin their journey of building and giving. They will be headed to Webster University about 30 minutes away to put bikes together for less fortunate children. Senior NHS has been planning for this event for about two months now and will be spending six hours of their time building the bicycles.

“We talked about it in some meetings, had a sign-up sheet and got an information packet.” senior Britney Callaway said, “Knowing that we’re helping kids is really exciting.”

Callaway and other students are very excited about this way to help out because it’s so different from others. Instead of giving money or buying items to give, they get to physically put the bikes together using different tools and skills. Students are expected to bring tools like screwdrivers, pliers, and the like to help the bike assembly move at a quicker pace. Dedicating time and tools these students are anxious to make a difference in these kids lives.

“The most rewarding thing is knowing that people will appreciate our hard work.” senior Kelsey McIlroy said.
