Fashion Club Plans to Decorate Ornaments

At their last meeting on Nov. 20, the Fashion Club tie-dyed T-shirts in order to represent the club. Members purchased these plain, white shirts and then dyed them to fit their individual styles and stand out from other clubs at FHN.

“We wanted our shirts to look different than just a plain club T-shirt,” Fashion Club President Maddie Hiatt said. “We wanted to stand out because I don’t know about any other clubs with tie-dye. Fashion club is all about being unique.”

The meeting began with a brief introduction from Hiatt, then the members were split into two groups. One of these groups dyed shirts and the other half enjoyed pizza while waiting for their turn. Because of the variety of colored dyes available, each Fashion Club member was able to create a personalized shirt.

“It’s important for them to do bonding activities so they can get to know each other and we can have better meetings,” Vice President Madeleine Richterkessing said. “It just makes a more comfortable meeting.”

At this meeting, discussion also began for Fashion Club’s Christmas activity: decorating ornaments. On Dec. 4, after a local fashion designer and her assistant speak to the club, the members will create their own ornaments, which will be displayed in room 26 on the Fashion Club Christmas tree. Each club member will receive a clear, plastic ornament that they will decorate with paint, glitter, and other materials available.

“We were trying to think of something to do for our Christmas meeting,” Richterkessing said. “We thought everybody wants an ornament and I had done something similar with my mom. What I’m most looking forward to is seeing what everyone comes up with since they’re all so creative in there.”

Officers in Fashion Club hope that the ornament decorating activity will provide an opportunity to get members into the Christmas spirit and also to further bond as a group.

“I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun just painting and decorating them, ” Treasurer Nick Wyer said. “I think it’s just a good thing to do during the season.”
