Water Pipes Burst at FHN

Around midday on Tuesday, Jan. 7, water pipes at FHN burst, likely due to the extreme cold temperatures the area experienced at the beginning of the week. Classrooms around the Commons (Com 1 – Com 9), as well as many rooms in the hallway that includes rooms 138-149 received water. Water also leaked into classrooms below in rooms 26-30. A secondary leak around rooms 115-116  also caused water to be received in classrooms in and below that area.

School was not in session and students were not on campus due to inclement weather; however, many administrators and maintenance staff were present when the pipes burst. The maintenance staff has now finished removing all of the water and staff are working to assess damage room by room.

“We had District technicians come in and fix the issue with the pipe,” Head Principal Andy Downs said. “We removed water from the various areas that it went to and now they will continue to adjust areas that were impacted, such as ceiling tiles and materials that were damaged.”

According to Downs, the leak did not affect the decision to have a snow day today, Wednesday, Jan. 8, and will not affect the ability to hold classes at FHN the remainder of the week.
