Art Clubs Next Project

After finally finishing the Memory Project, that they started back in September, the drawings and painting of the Memory Project were sent off to the orphanage in Cambodia IMG_8951and were expected to arrive this past friday.

“I enjoyed doing the Memory Project and I was excited for them to send them off,” art club member Amber Baker said.

The Memory Project was started in Wisconsin by a man named Ben Schumaker in 2004. This project allows art students to paint or draw a picture of an orphan that is then sent off. Once the child receives the portraits they get their picture taken with them holding their artwork these photo are then sent back to the arts students that made them so they can see the child’s reactions. This foundation was started as was a way to give something to children that they can call their own that don’t have much.

“I definitely will be doing this project again next year and I know a lot of friends that didn’t hear about it that want to do it too,” Emma Gordon said.”It just made me feel happy because I was able to give somebody something that would make them happy.

Art club is expecting to receive the pictures of the children with their portraits toward the end of February. Now with the Memory Project behind them art club will be discussing what they will be doing next at their upcoming meeting this thursday.

“I’m not sure yet but I think we are going to start designing and painting our next mural for the hallway,” Art club sponsor Michael Leistner said.
