Art In Motion Returns

On March 1, FHN hosted the sixth annual Art In Motion Winter Guard Competition. The competition hosted 45 different guards throughout the day. FHN’s own winter guard competed in the competition and received a 79.5 score.

“I like Art In Motion because it gives people the chance to see what other guards do and it also gives people who can’t go to other competitions the chance to see what color guard is really all about,” senior band member Alex Bishop said.

The guard members appreciate having a competition close to home, and gives community members and fans a chance to see the hard work that the guard puts in.

“Usually our competitions are not close, so it gives our friends who aren’t going to drive four hours away to see us, see our show,” junior guard member Sidney Sheridan said.

Most of the work for Art In Motion comes from the band students, but this year District Solo and Ensemble, a competition for band and choir students, happened on the same day. Both events happening at once caused a shortage in workers at the beginning of the day, but FHN was able to get a handle on the work and come out without many problems.

“Solo and Ensemble made it a little bit harder because those who wanted to help were limited to how long because they had other obligations but it didn’t keep them too long so they were still able to do both if they wanted to,” Bishop said.
