Boys Tennis Season Preview

Boys+Tennis+Season+Preview

Boys tennis is looking at a very different season this year with four members of varsity gold off in college.

While they have lost many good players, they have many more who can fill their place.

“We are looking strong this year and have seasoned talent from last year. We will miss that powerful one-two punch of Robbie Nicolli and Matt Dunn,” boys tennis coach Kate Klieber said. “They have inspired other players on our team to reach [for and to] stretch for greater achievements.”

The boys are hoping to go all the way to state this year. Last year’s defeat in the early round of districts was just motivation for the team this year. Even the newcomers to the team seem very motivated towards winning.

“The new people are looking really good, but they still need some work,” junior and veteran tennis player Adam Cole said. “They’ll look even better as the season goes on.”

With this past winter being much colder and snowier than in the previous years, many tennis players were forced to go to indoor courts and do other activities to keep their bodies in shape and keep up their game for the tennis season. This indoor practice and consistent playing makes the players and the coach much more hopeful towards the goal of making it to State.

“It is the time outside of season practice that makes us the powerful team that we are today,” Klieber said.

Losing some star players is never easy, but this year is looking very good for boys tennis. The players and the coach alike are very optimistic and think that this year is going to be a great year.

“As a whole, I think we are a better balanced team this year,” Klieber said. “We can accomplish great things.”
