Are You Smarter Than A Varsity Football Player?

On Saturday, March 29, the FHN football team held a fundraiser at Lions Club of Harvester. The fundraiser started at 6:00 p.m., and lasted until  around 10:30 pm. Past fundraisers included E-Raffle tickets and team car washes, but according to sophomore and football player Blake Lodde, the team wanted to try something different this year, and it was a success.

“I thought it was a good turn out, I think we raised a lot of money for our program,” Lodde said. “My favorite part was watching everyone trying to figure out the questions and stressing out if they got it wrong–it was just fun to be there.”

Parents and teachers participated in raffles, a silent auction, and two trivia rounds of  ‘Are You Smarter Than A Varsity Football Player?’. For each question that the football players answered correctly, they received $10. Parents and teachers were awarded points if they answered the questions correctly. At the end of the night, the football team raised around $9,000 to be used for uniforms including new black pants with grey and gold stripes as well as other football equipment.

“My favorite part of the night would probably be selling the tickets because we would do this thing where you’d pay $20 for a wingspan length of tickets and $30 for two people’s wingspan worth of tickets,” varsity football player, Aj Schulze said. “People would track us down from across the hall just to use our wingspan and it was just kind of funny.”

Lodde and Schulze both agree that the most coveted item was an autographed Michael Wacha World Series jersey that the team sold special tickets for.

“I know this was a big fundraiser for us, and if we did really well on this I think we might not have to do another fundraiser,” Schulze said. “But I think we might still do the car wash because that’s actually a lot of fun just to do and hangout with everyone and barbeque, so I hope we do that.”
