FHN sophomore Zoe Lawson was elected Vice President of Missouri’s Epsilon Beta club at the recent spring convention. Lawson was almost unanimously voted Vice President on Monday at the closing ceremony of the two day convention.

“I like the idea of a club that encourages people to read,” Lawson said. Before electing new officers, Epsilon Beta members toured Washington University and the Missouri History Museum. On the first day of the convention schools competed in book talks and quiz bowl. The FHN team placed second in Quiz Bowl, behind Troy Buchanan. Lawson also competed in a book talk but did not receive an award. After the competition students were invited to a ‘speakeasy’ the social event for the 20s themed convention. Schools were invited to come in their best 20s attire for the costume contest. North won the contest for greatest percent participating. Dancing was also encouraged and officers offered to teach the Charlston, a popular dance in the 20s.

“The best part was meeting so many new people interested in literature,” Lawson said.

As part of her new position Lawson hopes to encourage more kids from North to join Epsilon Beta

Epsilon Beta is in it’s fire year and North. The club invites students into the library and encourages members to explore careers in literature.
