The End Of A Successful Season

A few months ago, FHN Winter Guard began their season, and it has finally come to the end. On Wednesday, the guard left for Dayton, Ohio so that they could compete in the Winter Guard International World Championship.

“I love going to championships because I get to spend a lot of time with my team and I get to see so many different guards, plus the bus rides are really fun,” junior guard member Sidney Sheridan said.

FHN has already competed in the first round of the competition, where they received an 85.5. The guard is unhappy with their score because it is lower than their previous one, and their performance did not meet their expectations.

“[The performance] wasn’t our best, and it wasn’t exactly what we wanted for today,” Sheridan said. “It probably won’t put us where we want to be.”

Although the performance wasn’t up to their usual standards, this was the first time some of the guard members had performed at such an intense competition and they made the best out of their experience.

“I was excited and nervous because the whole thing was overwhelming but once we started I was fine,” freshman guard member Emma Kolkmeier said.

It is currently uncertain whether the guard made it past the preliminary round, but some students are hopeful that they make it.

“Our Winter Guard has done exceptionally well for all the hard work they’ve put in,” junior Bradley Kruse said. “I’m proud to be a student at a school where a group of people can work together as a team so well and eventually have the pay off and reward that our Winter Guard has had.”
