Being accepted into the Missouri Scholars 100 is no small feat. Two seniors, Matt Schneider and Courtney Vishy, were accepted into the program on April 27 at a ceremony at the Holiday Inn in Columbia, MO. The academy has many requirements that are very difficult to fulfill.

“It’s been a lot of hard work over the years, but I’ve become accustomed to being so focused on school that it wasn’t too bad for me,” Vishy said.

The Missouri Scholars 100 is an award given by the state of Missouri to two students from each of Missouri’s schools. In total, it’s name ringing true, it recognizes only the top 100 people and their academic achievements. In order for one to be accepted, one must have been nominated by head principal, Andy Downs, received a high score on their ACT. They must also have a high GPA , evidence of leadership, creativity, and commitment to the academy.

“The award itself shows that we are some of top students in our state, which is incredible,” Schneider said.

Both Schneider and Vishy have challenged themselves academically by taking rigorous courses such as AP Chemistry. They’re hard work for the past four years have not gone unnoticed. Schneider will be attending Ohio State University on a full-ride scholarship, while Vishy was accepted to Washington University early decision.

“It’s a real honor to know that my work has paid off, and to be included in a group of extraordinarily talented people,” Schneider said.
