Students Prepare Crab Rangoon and Egg Rolls in Cooking Class

Multimedia Pacakage by: David Hood and Hayley Vossmeyer

On May 19, students in Rebecca Just’s second hour class prepared crab rangoon and egg rolls. Just’s second hour class, called International Cuisine, shows students how to make food from other countries.

“I like this class because the food in here appeals to many ethnicities and food palettes,” junior AJ Lozada said.

The first step in the recipe for crab rangoon was to mix the first five ingredients, which consisted of crab meat, softened cream cheese, garlic powder, grated ginger root, and Worcestershire sauce. Many students enjoyed the taste of the finished product.

“I like crab rangoon because it tastes swell,” sophomore Kedar Gates said.

Senior Kyle Grable agreed.

“I like crab rangoon because it’s awesome,” Grable said.

The recipe for egg rolls includes carrots and peppers, which gives students the opportunity to practice peeling and chopping. They also must cook ground beef for the crab rangoon. However, before any food is prepared in class, including the crab rangoon and egg rolls, bookwork and other classwork has to be completed, which is some students’ least favorite part.

“Nobody likes the bookwork and there is a lot of packets,” sophomore Elle Redel said.

Other students enjoy other aspects of the class.

“It’s fun and it’s something exciting to do instead of going to a regular class,” junior Kaylen Clemens said.
