Ceramics I Teaches Art Techniques

(story by Anastasia Medley)

Ceramics 1, taught by Paul Just,  is a class centered on building three-dimensional designs using mainly clay, with techniques taught to the students on the basics of Ceramics.

Some techniques including how to ‘wedge’ clay to prevent air bubbles from forming in the project, causing or at least risking the figure to explode when fired in the kiln, and other various tips and pointers on how to create thing based on a 3 dimensional substance.

Passing Intro to Art is required to take this class, but Ceramics I and other art related classes are optional and give a practical art credit to students.

Ceramics allows students to have some imagination, and express themselves differently than how you would in other classes.

Students can create objects inspired by their favorite movies, TV shows, video games, or random objects they put together.

Overall, Ceramics I is a class about being creative, with sculpting objects and using your imagination, with some tips along the way to make sure you don’t mess it up.
