On Thursday Sept. 25, the Jv and varsity boys soccer teams will play a doubleheader against Troy, while the freshmen team will play at Troy. The Jv team will play at 4 p.m. and varsity
will play at 6 p.m.
“It’s gonna be great game for both teams,” sophomore Luis Negrete said. “Hopefully we can come out on top like we did the first time.”
Earlier in the season, the Jv team won 8-1 against Troy, while the varsity team won 1-0. Both teams seem to be going into the game with some confidence.
“We beat them already, so we should be able to beat them again,” junior Isaias Alvarado said.
Although the Jv team won with ease it seems, the varsity team seemed to have a bit more difficulty. Last season, varsity lost to Troy 2-1 in the home opener.
“[We have to] capitalize on the opportunities we have,” Assistant varsity Coach Zach Fettig said. “We had a lot of opportunities but didn’t finish.”
As of press time, the Jv team holds a record of 3-2-2 and the varsity team holds a record of 3-5. Both teams are looking to improve.
“[We need to] play quicker, and faster, and play together,” varsity captain , senior Andrew Meyer said.
Both teams have faced numerous injuries over the season, including the season long loss of Cesar Murillo, a short loss of Torrion Robinson, Jake Beckmann, and more.
“It’s hurt the team a lot,” junior Jake Beckmann said. “But we’ve managed to work through it.”
Overall, it seems that FHN are the favorites going into these matchups. Over the years, FHN has put up an impressive record against Troy, winning by a combined 36-4 scoreline last season.
“The team’s been practicing well, and we’ve been beat them before so we know how they play,” sophomore Michael Scanlon said.
