The Lady Knights tennis team took to the courts for districts on October 6 through the 8. The team competed at teams double and individual level. According to senior,
Risa Takenaka they showed great dedication, perseverance and drive into the matches they played.
Sophomore, Yuri Takenaka played at 4 p.m. at Parkway Central. Takenaka prepared herself mentally and physically with lots of hard work and trying her best at all of her practices.
“I had a good attitude, a lot better than last year,” Takenaka said. “I knew that the girls were going to be pretty good so I had to be mentally strong.”
Takenaka was winning in the first set 5-2 but ended up losing the next two sets.The match lasted about three hours.
“We probably could have practiced more and had more of a positive mindset,” Takenaka said.
Many of the girls were faced with many challenges, from the tough competition to the windy weather conditions, but the Lady Knights still gave it their all and expressed their love and passion for the game.
Junior, Madi Oostendorp competed in her districts as well, held at Francis Howell Central. The match was against Francis Howell Central and lasted about 45 minutes, Francis Howell North ended up losing that match.
“We played a good game overall but I could have definitely hit better ground strokes.” Oostendorp said.
Oostendorp never quit and took every opportunity she could throughout the game.
”The hardest part was the end, because we were down by a few games but we kept trying and came back with a couple points,” Oostendorp said. “There is always next year.”
