This week’s winner – Sean Fowler.

Fowler is a US History and AP Psychology teacher here at FHN. He enjoys seeing his students succeed while in his classroom. AP Psychology discusses how biological, cognitive, and cultural factors converge to facilitate acquisition, development, and use of language. US History discusses the events of the United States of America from when the settlers colonizing the U.S. he uses the five habits of mind as a way for his students to think about a certain subject from all points of view and relevance.

“The five habits of mind is how I teach my students to learn the material for the class,” Fowler said.

Five habits of mind:

1. The value of asking questions about evidence (“How do we know what we know?”)
2. Point of view (“Whose perspective does this represent?”)
3. Connections (“How is this related to that?”)
4. Supposition (“How might things have been otherwise?”)
5. Relevance (“Why is this important?”)

He enjoys the interaction between his students and helping his students think and comprehend the subject at hand. He offers his students situations that they have to use their knowledge to work through and solve.

“My students have the thinking skills to get them through numerous, challenging, situations it what I strive for,” Fowler said.

Fowler’s favorite hobbies include reading and running. He enjoys running because it is a way to clear the mind and pressures of the day.

“It’s an opportunity to think without any distractions,” Fowler said.
