“It was awesome to see them win,” sophomore Alexis Clark said. “Especially since we didn’t win last year.”

During the first period, the Knights scored three goals and the Vikings scored one. Going into the second period, the Knights were up and scored two more goals. After the third period started, the Knights scored another goal securing them the game. When that final buzzer rang, the crowd for Howell North went crazy.

“Winning Gold Cup was huge for the team and really set the tone for the season,” LaMartina said.

The Knights had redeemed themselves from last years loss to Howell at Gold Cup. The team is looking forward to the season by upping their record from last year and making it farther in districts.

“I was really excited to play and I was wondering how big our fan section was going to be,” junior DJ LaMartina said.

Each side had a huge crowd of fans supporting and cheering on the teams. The student section crowds battled back and forth to be loudest and most known of their presence in the ice rink.

“Gold Cup was so much fun,” senior Maddy Snyder said. “It was a good way to bond with everyone and just have a good time.”

Before the game started, each hockey player was escorted onto the ice by a dancer from Knightline. They stood on the ice together while the national anthem played in the background.

“It was exciting to escort Bryan [Fuller] on his senior Gold Cup and I was scared I was going to fall on the ice,” senior Samantha Immekus said.

The Knights will face John Burroughs High School at the Rec Plex this Saturday at 6:45 p.m.
