“Anything Goes” Auditions at FHN

Auditions for the spring musical “Anything Goes” were held on Jan. 26 at FHN in the auditorium, and callbacks were Jan. 27. The musical will be held on April 9 through 11 starting at 7 p.m. at FHN.

“It’s fun doing plays because you get to know a lot of new people and they’re so fun to hang out with,” sophomore Maddie Mitchell said. “Doing a show together is just the funniest thing.”

At the audition, students had the opportunity to perform a 30 second monologue and a 1 minute song they prepared. They also had the chance to audition for dance, where they were put into small groups of about 8 and learned choreography as a group.

“For my audition, I sung Jolene by Dolly Parton, and I did a monologue from the Spongebob movie,” sophomore Audrey Baker said. “I just enjoy singing, acting and performing for people, so being in a musical sounded like a lot of fun.”

The cast list was posted Jan. 27 shortly after callbacks, consisting of a total of around 40 different actors and actresses. The vocal chorus itself contains around 20 people, whereas the dance chorus has around five members.

“My favorite part about being in a play is the feeling of pride while being on stage during the performance, and knowing that the audience is enjoying it, and that all your work has paid off,” male lead sophomore Dan Borrelli said.

Members of the cast are excited for this because they enjoy doing musicals more than regular plays, and believes the audience enjoys it more as well.

“I wanted to audition because the theater is very special to me, and musicals just add extra vibrancy to everything,” Borrelli said. “The cast always likes it more, and they’re just a much better experience.”
