backwards day on Monday, stages of life on Tuesday, movie or book character day on Wednesday, black and gold day on Thursday and class colors day on Friday.

“My favorite part of Snowcoming spirit week is class colors day,” StuCo member senior Brenda Alvarado said. “It’s our last pep assembly ever, so I’m sad, but excited.”

While backwards day, character day, black and gold day and class colors day have been staples at FHN, stages of life is a new theme that will be introduced this year. On this day, freshmen will dress as babies, sophomore will dress as toddlers, juniors will dress as middle aged adults and seniors will dress as elderly people.

“I asked a friend from another school what kind of spirit days they had and stages of life was one,” StuCo Treasurer senior Dominique Meyer said. “It was new and I think people will participate in it.”

The ideas for spirit week themes were brainstormed by a committee of StuCo officers and cabinet members who stayed after school in the weeks leading up to Snowcoming. After the ideas were decided upon, officers put them up for a vote at a general staff meeting. From there, the spirit days had to be approved by the activities department, which resulted in a few spirit day tweaks.

“Pajama day was one and the other one I liked was salad dressing day, but they didn’t like the possibility of togas,” Meyer said.

Although StuCo doesn’t usually see as much student participation in Snowcoming spirit week compared to Homecoming, StuCo is confident that students will enjoy dressing up throughout the week. As always, Wilkens appreciates the excitement that spirit week builds for the Snowcoming dance and pep assembly.

“The goal is to raise spirit and provide something fun and different,” Wilkens said. “In a roundabout way, it builds excitement for our dance. I like the dance and think it’s always fun. I wish they had had it at my school.”
