Jensen’s Music Blog: Katy Perry at the Super Bowl

Day 1: Katy Perry Performs at the Super Bowl

On Sunday, the Seahawks and the Patriots faced off in the Super Bowl. At half time, Katy Perry was set to perform. I am a closeted Katy Perry fan, so I was actually really excited to see the show.

She started off the spectacle with “Roar” while standing on what looked a giant animatronic tiger that was being moved by people in little black suits. This was such a cool part of the performance and showed how much really goes into these shows.

The next song Perry performed was “Dark Horse” which is by far my favorite song by her. She sounded great on this song during the performance, and the visuals were outstanding. The chess board tilting back and forth was mind blowing and I loved it.

After that, Lenny Kravitz came out and played “I Kissed a Girl” and sang along with Perry. Their voices worked very well together and it was cool to see the two of them performing together. It was much better than I was expecting.

After an outfit change, Perry came back out to a beach scene where she sang “Teenage Dream”. This part was so bizarre. From the dancing sharks that the internet is losing their minds over to the one toothed dancing beach balls, it was a very weird part. I enjoyed it, but it was confusing in a way.

Next, she stayed on the beach and sang “California Girls”. This one was good, still strange though. I kept hoping Snoop Dogg would come out and do his verse. That would have made it that much better.

The performance moved forward to the Missy Elliot section. I didn’t realize that Elliot was still relevant, but she put on a fantastic performance. The lights, the music, and the outfit gave off such a fun and intense atmosphere and it worked perfectly.

Finally, Perry ended the show with “Fireworks”. She was lifted into the air and flown across the stadium on a giant shooting star. It was a perfect way to end the show and close the performance.

All in all, this was the best halftime show I can remember. Everybody who was involved did their job very well, and all the performers were playing and singing at their best. It sounded amazing and was very visually pleasing.

Day 2: All That Remains Vocalist Makes Homophobic Comments

In an interview for Revolver magazine, All That Remains vocalist Phil Labonte claimed that members of the LGBT community had no right to be offended by slurs and that African American people are the only people who should be allowed to be offended by slurs. He continues making outlandish statements like this throughout the whole interview. To read it, follow the link below.
