Girls Swimming and Diving Sends Two to State

On Feb. 10-12 the Howell North girls swim team had a stressful week, competing to stay in the competition for the GAC title. To advance on to the next round, each swimmer had to place in the top 16 of each event. The  GAC competition was held at the St. Peters Rec Plex.swimswam

“Some challenges was all the competition there, it was way bigger than other high school meets,” freshman Elizabeth Stallings said. “You could tell that all the people there have worked hard and were going to give it their all.”

Freshman Erin Stock and Senior Dominique Meyer will be moving to  the State competition. Stock will be the first swimmer in eight years to move on to state for Howell North and Meyer will be going for diving for her fourth time throughout her high school career.

“I look up to Erin because of how dedicated she is, she has lots of shoulder problems and still seems to bring her A-game,” freshman Kyleigh Macmann said.

To prepare for the teams events, Coach William Crow has helped teach the swimmers specific training methods and is confident in the teams overall performance.

“We have just been really focusing on individual events, some other times at practice the girls will work on very specific strokes or very specific turns and then for our relays and our starts we’ve just practiced those specifically,” Crow said. “It hasn’t deviated much from what we’ve done all year it’s just a continuation.”

Unlike other sports, swimming does not have District or Sectionals. GAC is the event to see who will move onto the State swim meet, which will also be held at the St. Peters Rec Plex.
