The Loft Review

Five guys wealthy, married, loved, and in the prime of their career.  Top of the world. What could go wrong?  Jan. 30 this thriller has finally made it to America’s theaters. With not much Loftanticipation, it received a lot of interest and hype once the trailer came out. A movie about five married guys conspire to secretly share a penthouse loft in the city where they can carry out hidden affairs and indulge in their deepest fantasies. But the fantasy becomes a nightmare when they discover the dead body of an unknown woman in the loft, and they realize one of the group must be involved.

Going into the film, you knew this thriller had some twists to come. While I went in trying to find them, I failed to do so. That is good directing. When the movie begins it starts somewhere in the middle of the timeline where they first find the body. It is a good start to introduce the characters. You meet the guys and you see their relationship when they just hit the peak where things begin to go down hill. The movie then trails off to flash back to the beginning of the whole Loft plan. You get to see the idea form and see how it first started out. Then it follows the story flash-by-flash cutting back to the disaster that they are in trying to figure out how it happen. Finally, the flashes catch up to the present and you still have wonders of what the heck is going on. It does start slow and what may seem pointless but that’s when you need to pay the most attention because they have a lot of hints of what leads to the twist.

This movie is mind blowing and has you enjoying the backstory and then on the edge of your seat when the whole story starts to build up. The actors deliver the story so well with great character, with great relationships. This was one of those movies you could picture happening in reality. With Karl Urban playing the suave rich kinda head of the gang, he set a great character if being the alpha male. James Marsden’s character being the more down to earth guy who seems to have a conscience. And Eric Stonestreet’s character playing the goofy, lovable, comedic relief there to make this not only a suspense but a slip of comedy.

I do not recommend this movie for date night, this is a movie to see with the guys or if you’re a girl, with the girls. Very enjoyable as long as you don’t predict the ending. The twists and curveballs are what rates it higher for me. I give this movie an 8 out of 10. Definitely a memorable story and intense time watching.
