Aim For Five

Advanced Placement testing, also known as AP testing, is taken by students in May of every year. The date the test is taken this year is May 13. Not everyone gets to take the AP test; students ACTmust register to take the test to see if he/she is fit for a more advanced learning class.

The score a student wants to aim for while taking the test is a score of five. Earning a five means that you are extremely well qualified for the advanced class you would like to take. A four means you are well qualified, a three means you are qualified and fit to take a class, and a two means you may struggle in the class, a one means it’s not recommended.

“I think I’ll score maybe a three or four because on the practice test I’m taking, I’m getting an average score,” junior, Alyssa Savage said.

If a student passes an advanced class he/she will be awarded at graduation. Students can earn college credit and/or honors points for passing the class as well. Some colleges may not take the advanced course as college credit. Colleges such as SCC, Lindenwood, and Mizzou require a student to score a 3-5 on the AP test he/she is taking and a certain amount of hours to receive credit.
