Varsity Softball Competes in Parkway Tournament

On Aug. 24-26 the varsity softball team competed in the annual Parkway Invitational Softball Tournament. The team won two out of four games and didn’t place.softball1

“We didn’t place in the tournament and I was really disappointed about it because our team has a lot of talent this year and we could have done so much better if we would have gotten the right hits at the right time,” junior Audrey Baker said.

The team played McCluer North, winning 22-2, Pattonville, losing 5-6, De Soto, losing 1-7, all at Ballwin Park, and Fort Zumwalt East at Manchester Park, winning 11-4.

“I think the team can improve on our confidence when we’re playing,” junior Austyn Rowan said. “Too many of us don’t believe in ourselves and that is a big difference between a win and a loss.”

The team was disappointed that they didn’t make it as far as they knew they could have, but they were proud of the improvement they had this year compared to last year.

“This year we made it further than we did last year, so I was very happy with the improvement,” Baker said. “Our entire batting lineup is really solid, so I’m looking forward to lots of great hits this year.”

Despite not doing as well as they hoped in their first tournament, the team is optimistic about the rest of the season and thinks they will do a lot better this season than they did last season.

“I think this years team will have a much better record than last years,” Baker said. “Both of our pitchers have improved over the summer, our hitting has improved overall, and our defense looks really solid this year. I think the team can improve by keeping the intensity up from the very first inning. If we stay focused and tight then I can see us being great this year.”
