Rival Teams Face Off for the first time this Season

The boys varsity soccer team will be playing at home against one of their biggest rival, the FHC spartans on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m..

“I’m looking forward to this game because every time we play Central it’s always a high intensity game for all 80 minutes with two very good teams,” Senior Jake Bechmann said. “I also know some kids on the team so it’ll be fun to play against them.”

The knights current ranking is 2-4-1 after a close defeat to Desmet with a 3-2 loss in overtime on Sept. 5 while FHC’s is 3-2, winning their last game against FZW 2-1. Junior Jesse George is excited for the face off against the two school. After losing to the Spartans last year in penalty kicks, he believes his team is much better than what it may look like on paper and from last years game.

“We were working very hard during the preseason knowing that we had a tough schedule coming,” George said. “But one thing we have really been focusing on is working as a unit rather than as individuals. We have come a far way since the beginning of the season and are still working on it, but I think all that work is really going to show when we play them.”

One of the biggest factors in this game will be keeping a positive attitude, which helps the players be mentally tough throughout the entire game. The knights have been working on this all season, trying to beat their competitors not only with athleticism but with athletic positivity.

“One thing we really have been keen on and we have been doing differently is keeping a positivity circulating throughout our team,” George said. “Staying positive on and off the field is critical in staying mentally strong and I think that’s why we have been working on it so hard.”
