Taylor the Contortionist [video]

Sophomore Taylor Perry is a body contortionist. This means she can bend her body in different ways and hyper-extend in ways many people can not. Her dance background when she was younger helped her do these tricks.

“Contortion makes me feel awesome,” said Perry. “Because most people who see me do it get creeped out.”

Perry was twelve when she discovered her talent. She moved to Missouri from Michigan. When she moved, she decided to quit ballet, jazz, and tap dancing to do gymnastics. When she first started, she was focused on splits, once she did that, started doing back tricks.

“The first trick I did was a scorpion,” said Taylor “I remember I would lean up against the couch to learn balance. When I did I needle by myself I felt like I improved.”

Taylor learned more about this form or dance from being in gymnastics, and looking at pictures or videos of other people doing contortion moves, and her sister, Ashley Perry. Ashley graduated from FHN in 2014 and was on Knightline while in school. Seeing her sister dance made Taylor want to get back into it. Currently, Taylor does ballet, tap, and acrobatics.

“She would always start stretching,” Ashley says “and throughout the year she started to do really cool tricks.”
