Varsity Volleyball Goes Down With a Fight After Districts

On Oct. 20, girls volleyball districts started. The Varsity volleyball team was looking at a tough schedule. First Pattonville, and then if they win that, Incarnate Word would be challenging them theVolleyball next day. Districts were held at Pattonville.

“I felt very upset, not because of the loss but because as a senior that was it for me,” Senior Varsity setter Baylie Clynes said. “I think we worked our butts off and left it all on the court during that game.”

On Tuesday, FHN faced Pattonville. At the beginning of the season FHN played Pattonville at home. FHN swept PHS in two quick games. This time FHN was facing Pattonville on their home court. The first game went by quick with Pattonville coming out on top. That quickly changed when FHN won the next two games, to win the match.

“I wish we could’ve won and continued on but I am so proud of how we played against Incarnate Word,” Senior Meghan Mitchell said. “Everyone played with so much heart and did all that we could.”

On Wednesday, FHN faced Incarnate Word Academy. Last year in districts, Incarnate beat FHN in the district finals 2-0. FHN was out to win. The first game, FHN won 25-17. After putting up a tough fight Incarnate won the next game 25-16. It came down to the third game, FHN started with the serve. The game was back and forth on points, points being earned one by one. Incarnate came out on top with a score of 25-21, putting them into the district finals.

The final record stands at seven wins, 13 losses and two ties. This season the teams underwent changes. Three new coaches, Kaitlyn Early, Abbie O’mara and Taylor Beyers were added to the program.

“I think our game against Incarnate Word was the best game we played all season,” Coach Kaitlyn Early said. “Our girls came to play and they were fired up from the start. I honestly have never seen them play with so much heart and passion. They truly made me proud to be their coach. The coaching staff was definitely fired up as well. We were just motivated as an entire team that was something really special to be apart of. Obviously, the outcome isn’t what we wanted, but the girls played with so much drive and love of the game, which was even more important than the win.”
