As of the beginning of second semester, Diane Holmes’s first semester students have had to become acquainted with a new teacher. After Holmes resigned, her AP Literature and mythology classes have been distributed amongst other teachers in the English Department including a newly hired teacher.

Amy Stoker has taken over two AP Literature and two English II classes that were taught by Holmes. Stoker has already taught these types of classes at FHN and is plenty prepared to take them on. Holmes also left notes about the students helping Stoker get to know them before she even met them and helping her create discussion groups.

“She left great notes which really helped me with where everybody was with their learning levels and personalities that worked and everything,” Stoker said. “It helped me create teams that would keep working together well.”

Stoker’s new students have felt that the transition was pretty painless and she has been a great teacher to them thus far.

“It’s going pretty well, Mrs. Stoker seems to be doing very well so far,” Alex Warhover, one of Stoker’s new AP Literature students said. “I enjoy having her as a teacher.”

With all the redistribution of classes, a new teacher, Katie Schaefer, was hired to help take over some classes as well. She has taken on Stoker’s old English I classes as well as mythology and creative writing classes. Schaefer has already taught for eight years at Eureka High School.

“I’m just glad to be here and getting to know the kids,” Schaefer said. “I took about a three and a half year break to take care my kids, so it’s fun to be back in the classroom.”
