The annual book sale fundraiser at Francis Howell North is taking place this coming weekend. Everything from baked goods as well as discounted books and movies being sold with a special appearance from Ken Reitz, former third baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals, will be going on.

“We are currently taking donations and although would like to have everything by April 14, we will not turn away anything that comes in up to the day of the event. We need the senior parents to donate a couple of hours that weekend to help make the event a success as well as to spread the word so we can sell, sell, sell!” senior parent Theresa Throgmorton said.

This event has been going on for several years to help raise money for the All-Knighter, which takes place the night of graduation for the graduating seniors. The book sale is taking place in the FHN commons on Saturday; doors will open on Saturday morning at 9:00 am, there will be adult and children’s books, DVDs and CDs. Most books will be 50 cents to $1.00 while DVDs will be $2.00. There will be specialty books and/or collections that will be priced separately. Throgmorton has taken the lead role of this fundraiser and even kept all the donations from last year. She, as well as many other parents involved, are still collecting. The goal for them is to be able to create one of the best All-Knighter’s and they have to do so by collecting, selling and gaining tons of profit. Aside from a few expenses, most the money will be used for the seniors.

“I think a book sale would be great for those people who love reading or movies that can get it for a low price and that it’s also great for others who can clear up some space in their house for a good cause,” senior Delaney Chapman said.

A couple of the parents know Reitz personally and he volunteered to sign autographs to those who donate to the event. He will be at the book sale from noon to 2 p.m. Current junior parents are encouraged to volunteer as well since one of them will need to take over this event for the upcoming year. Any books left uncollected by junior parents at the end of the day will be donated to Savers, Goodwill or another charitable organization. Many of the seniors going are ecstatic for the All-Knighter and are thankful to the parents for their hard work.

“I’m glad the parents are working so hard to give us a good All-Knighter,” senior Molly Imboden said.
