On Friday, April 15 FHN Student Council hosted the annual Mr. FHN competition. The competition consisted of students of FHN competing in a male beauty pageant. Each contestant participated in a group dance, casual wear, formal wear, talent and question portion.

“My favorite part of Mr. FHN was spending time will all of the people involved with the event,” senior Tommy Watts said. “I also really enjoyed learning the group dance.”

Each contestant picked an organization to raise money for. Some organizations included The Trevor Project, The Wounded Warrior Project and Meals on Wheels. The contestants spent weeks before the competition raising money for these organizations using many different methods including selling baked goods and garage sales. Senior Sohail Jchaj raised the most money for his charity, the Youth in Need Foundation, raising over $1000.

“I really enjoyed all the hard work that everyone put in.” Jchaj said. “We all worked so hard in all the practices and we just put in so much time into learning everything. I really liked working with everyone and I’m so happy with all of the money we raised for all the good causes.”

Jchaj ended up winning the competition, earning him the title of Mr. FHN. Jchaj’s talent included a rap battle with Spanish teacher Brian Santos. Some other talents included singing, ventriloquism, and interpretive dancing. The contestants were judged by teachers that included Chip Crow, Tracy Wuertenberg, Mike Parker, and Courtney Freeman. The judges scored each of the different categories in order to come up with scores for each of the contestants. Watts won Mr. Congeniality, senior Bennett Smallwood was second runner up, senior Jake Dehesa was first runner up and Jchaj was Mr. FHN.

“My favorite part was seeing how the guys progressed their group dance and talents from the first days to the night of the show,” Student Council president Nicole Morse said. “I really liked how well all of their talents came together.”
