Ben Ra: The Unsung District Hero

By Bennett Smallwood, North Star Co-Editor in Chief

Call after call. Request after request. And when technological problems arise in the school that no one knows how to solve, District Technician Benjamin Ra is there to help. Ra is seen throughout the school every day, from Jon Travis’ room to the business department, fixing problems to keep students’ and teachers’ days running smoothly.

“Ben is a great guy,” principal Chris Birch said. “He really is an unsung hero at our school.”

Ra gets to where he needs to be for the district very early every single morning. His daily routine consists of several work orders that need to be finished as soon as possible. Emergencies often come up almost everyday as well, adding much more onto Ra’s workload. Because of this, Ra is almost never in the same place for a long period of time. It is very hard for him to keep up with the coworkers he is close with because he is constantly up and about, but that doesn’t stop him from having positive interactions with everyone he comes across during the day whenever he can.

“For the most part, I really enjoy everyone I work with,” Ra said. “Teachers and even students. They are all a lot of fun.”

Ra has thought about taking a shot at doing something with education in the future as well. He hopes to possibly combine these two areas and teach computer science classes or something in a similar field. But for now, he is happy where he is. Ra enjoys coming to the schools everyday but spends most of his time at FHN. He would like to see everyone he is close to in the school even though he has a busy schedule.

“I think he plays a huge roll in our lives in school,” senior Lauren Kreutz said.” We shouldn’t take what they do for us for granted and they should be shown off more.”
