Since 1976, Grandma’s Cookies on Main has been serving the locals of St. Charles, Missouri and those from out of town. Within a little over 40 years of being in business on the Historic Main Street of St. Charles, this locally famous cookie shop has been a favorite for the people of Missouri.

“[I decided to work here because] I know the owner so I had an inside-person,” employee Anne Tabora said. “I decided I needed a Christmas job.”

With a total of 12 cookie flavors, Grandma’s Cookies on Main has been voted the best dessert of St. Charles County. They have seven daily flavors which include Grandma’s Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle, Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Grandpa’s Oatmeal Raisin, Coconut, and Sugar Sprinkles. They also have five seasonal flavors which include Double Chocolate Chunk, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, Ginger Spice, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, and M&M. However, the sales don’t stop at cookies; Grandma’s Cookies also sells coffee and tea.

“[My favorite cookie is] definitely chocolate chip,” customer Josie said. “Though I think that’s everyone’s favorite.”

But these famous cookies didn’t come from just anywhere. Grandma’s Cookies on Main was founded in the year of 1976. Charlotte “Grandma” Thompson opened up shop because she wanted to give the public “cookies like your grandma used to make”, and she did just that. In present day, the store is doing just as well as it was when it opened for business; everyday being a busy and crazy kind of day.

“I get a sense of nostalgia; it’s about memories of the past,” first time customer Lamont Crawley said. “When I come in, it brings back old memories and gives that nostalgia feeling. It brings back old memories and forms new ones.”
