Freshman Chloé Horstman brings more to FHN than just being a student, as she is also a seamstress. At a young age Horstman found her niche for making her own clothes. Though she doesn’t make all of her clothes, she has made a decent amount of clothing for herself, most of them being dresses.

“I started when I was like 8 or 9 [years old], I always wanted to learn how to sew,” Horstman said. “My grandma taught me how to operate a machine, but other than that I’m pretty self-taught.”

As Horstman has gotten older her love for sewing has only grown stronger. She has made a total of about ten things, a few being for her younger sisters. She has also made a couple things for her friend, Ashlynn Perez.

“For my birthday, she made me a flower crown and a necklace with similar flowers on it,” Perez said.

Though Horstman only sews clothes for herself and friends, she one day hopes to be able to give back and help benefit others with her ability to sew.

“I want to get to a point where I can donate clothes or earn money making clothes and then be able to donate that,” Horstman said.

Horstman has always had a knack for sewing and being able to make clothes. As she grows, so does her love for sewing.

“I make clothes cause it’s really fun for me, I just kind of fell in love with it when I was younger,” Horstman said. “I used to play a game with my sister where we’d pretend to turn all of our blankets into ball gowns, but then, I started actually being able to do that. Which made it a whole lot more meaningful and fun.”
