On Oct. 24, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members were involved in one of the exciting opportunities provided by FBLA. This opportunity was a Leadership Conference hosted at Kokomo Joe’s. It was a field trip that 15 FBLA members attended all day.

“The conference is a time for students to learn from guest speakers, mingle with other FBLA members and play at Kokomo Joe’s,” FBLA sponsor Mim Eaton said.

The conference consisted of two guest speakers and all of the schools in FHN’s district conference were there. The day started with students choosing which guest speaker they wanted to listen to.

“The guest speaker I went to was an oncology nurse from the Gateway to Hope organization,” FBLA member, junior Kira Ward said. “They are a non profit that helps provide relief for breast cancer patients and helps pay for their treatment.”

The other guest speaker talked about FBLA competitions. He gave tips on how to present in front of judges and do well in competition.  After the speakers, the students were all given time to enjoy pizza for lunch as well as all the games at Kokomo Joe’s.

“At the conference, I love getting to see the kids meet each other and get excited about competition,” Eaton said.

Moving forward, FBLA is looking to do some community service as well as raise money for their various competition trips throughout the year.

“I’m really excited to compete in computer science this year and hopefully make it to state,” FBLA member, senior Peter Bennett said.
