Due to the loss of 12 seniors on the boy’s volleyball team last year, there has been an opening for a new leader. For junior Thomas Beye, he saw an opportunity to become a new leader on the varsity volleyball team.

“I am really looking forward to getting better as a team,” Beye said. “We have no seniors this year so we are just going to be getting better as a team.”

When Beye was a freshman he always looked up to the varsity team. It made him want to become a better player and it looked fun and he knew he wanted to become that good one day.

“I think we are going to be pretty good,” Beye said. “We might struggle a bit at first but we will get things figured out. We have a lot of people who are first time varsity.”

Beye has been on the varsity volleyball team since his sophomore year as a right side hitter. Beye suffered from a broken ankle during his freshman year which caused him to sit out during his club season of volleyball. When he got better he practiced hard which led to an increased vertical, by a few inches, and better technique.

“My teammates push me to be better and I try to do the same for them,” Beye said.

Beye’s favorite part of volleyball is hitting the volleyball and the family vibes with his coaches and teammates. He hopes to continue to grow as a player with the help of his coaches and possibly play in college.

“The coaches are great,” Beye said. “They help everyone and they make it fun.”
