On Thursday, May 3, Francis Howell North’s track and field team participated in the GAC tournament. The tournament was hosted at Francis Howell Central and featured multiple participants from other schools.  After a long, up-and-down season, some of the sprinters ended their season last week, while some moved on. There was plenty of growth and development as a team, and it’s shown by the runners.

“I think our team could’ve done better overall,” junior sprinter Kathryn Brooks said. “We had a couple problems with handoffs and stuff, but other than that we had a lot of people set their own personal records. The meet itself wasn’t that organized but overall the team did the best we could do and we gave ourselves something to learn from.”

The team that did the best overall was the sprinters 4×4 team. They have been reliable throughout the season, and have worked hard to improve throughout the months. They have gone through changes and cycled through runners but they’ve always stayed consistent.

“GACs was one of our best performances overall, our team did really good and they showed we could compete with other schools at higher levels,” senior sprinter Josh Tanner said. “It was a great atmosphere too and our 4×4 team did really well, so it was decent turnout.”

The JV runners ended their season with GACs and will return next year. As for varsity runners, it’s time for districts. Depending on the performance of the runners they could potentially move on to sectionals, and then state.   The sprinters had an up-and-down season, with a lot of changes, but seem to be optimistic and hopeful of the future.
