One of the many traditions at FHN is the annual Powderpuff game. Powderpuff is a football match between junior and senior girls, it takes place during Homecoming week to pump up the student body for the rest of the week ahead. 2018’s match will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m.

“[I’m playing because] it’s fun and because I get to play a sport I wouldn’t normally play,” senior Hannah Wilson said. “I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time, because my sister did it and it looked really fun.”

Roughly 160 girls play Powderpuff each year, they had two mandatory practices leading up to the game, but with the ability to add more practices throughout the weeks leading up to it. When the girls sign up to play they have to buy a jersey to wear during the game. It’s a long time tradition for the girls to decorate them.

“I had fun,” senior Sammie Burke said. “I didn’t decorate my jersey, but instead I decorated my shorts to show my class spirit.”

Along with the girls who play the sport, there are several junior and senior guys who dress up as crowd-pleasers. They cheer during halftime and work towards getting the crowd excited for the game. The game helps to bring in money for the club Knights of Excellence. It helps to fund the KOE Picnic at the end of the year.

“I’m so excited for Powderpuff,” Powderpuff sponsor Lindsey Scheller said. “Since the girls who are now seniors won last year, so they think they have it in the bag, but it’ll be cool to see how it plays out.”
