As summer has come to an end, here’s a list of the top ten best movies that came out this summer.

10.) Eighth Grade”- The year that we switch from children to teens, Bo Burnham perfectly captures the worst year of our lives in “Eighth Grade.” For a Sundance film, “Eighth Grade” did decent in the box office making $15 million. However, this movie did lack a strong plot.

9.) Hereditary”- The movie that fueled nightmares since its release, “Hereditary” opened a new side to horror that we haven’t seen before. After the grandmother of the Graham family passes away, her daughter and granddaughter soon discover the dark and sinister side of their ancestry. This movie stayed in theaters for about 2 months and made $44 million domestically. Personally this movie had a lot of scenes that did frighten me, but it wasn’t consistent. This put “Hereditary” as #9 on our list.

8.)Adrift”- Based on a true story, “Adrift” is one romantic movie that keeps you on your toes. Both on their separate adventure, Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp find each other and decide to sail across the ocean together. Soon after the voyage begins, they are caught in one of the most powerful hurricanes in history. “Adrift” kept me anticipating the next scene throughout and left me crying at the end. However, it fell short in the critics eyes with a 72 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.

7.)Tag”- One month every year, five friends play an intense game of tag – risking their necks and their relationships, to take one another down. This time, the game coincides with the wedding of the only undefeated player. The other four decide to make him their sole target. “Tag” is one of the few comedy movies from the summer that delivered all their jokes and kept me laughing throughout.

6.)Crazy Rich Asians”- The name says it all, “Crazy Rich Asians.” A fun, bright movie about love and money. With an all Asian cast, this movie brought a lot of people in just for the diversity. In the box office it made over $150 million domestically, and had a surprising Rotten Tomatoes score of 93 percent.

5.)Ocean’s 8”- A parallel to “Ocean’s 11,” which came out in late 2001, this movie takes place in modern time, right after Debbie Ocean has gotten out of jail after six years. While in jail she devised the biggest heist of her life. She knows what it’s going to take – a team of the best people in their fields. Their target is a necklace that’s worth more than $150 million. “Ocean’s 8” all female cast gave the box office a run for their money coming in right under $300 million worldwide. Personally, I found this movie lackluster compared to the original, but alone it was a well written movie that gives every viewer a rush of adrenaline.

4.) Ant-Man and the Wasp”- Marvel movies almost never disappoint and “Ant-Man and the Wasp” is no exception. Scott Lang is grappling with the choices of being both a superhero and a father. Approached by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym, Lang must once again wear the Ant-Man suit and fight alongside the Wasp. Trouble ensues when the dynamic duo finds themselves in an epic battle against a powerful new enemy. Filled with lots of jokes and action, “Ant-Man and the Wasp” lands a significant Rotten Tomatoes score of 88 percent, improving since the first film.

3.) Mama Mia! Here We Go Again”-  Rather a prequel than sequel, this movie is set in 1979 with young Donna just graduating college and embarking on a trip through Europe. While traveling, she meets three young men, one of which is the father of her future child. “Mama Mia! Here We Go Again,” is a fun movie that will have you singing along to every Abba song.

2.) Deadpool 2”- “Deadpool 2” is one movie you won’t be able to keep a straight face in. During this film, Deadpool has to assemble a team to defeat Cable, but early on in the movie he’s ridden with grief over a certain character’s death. This movie is one of the funniest I’ve ever seen, but watch with caution due to the crude humor and semi-gory scenes.

1.) Incredibles 2”- At #1, “Incredibles 2” took over the box office and my heart. Growing up with “The Incredibles,” I didn’t expect the sequel to have the same feeling, but it exceeded my expectations. In this movie, Helen (Elastigirl) is the main crime fighter, while Bob (Mr. Incredible) is left at home watching the kids. The family is challenged with a new villain emerging as well as Jack-Jack’s powers starting to show. The film racked in about $605 million domestically. “Incredibles 2” definitely won theaters this summer.
