FHN’s wrestling team traveled to MICDS on Jan. 18 and 19 for a tournament. The Varsity team members competed in individual events, with six members of the team placing. FHN came in sixth overall out of 19 competing teams.

“We’re happy with that,” Assistant coach Sean Fowler said. “I wish we would have had more in the line up but this was still a good line up.”

Of the six FHN students that placed at the tournament, only senior Josh Simmons came in first in his weight class, beating a state qualifier. Other competitors that placed were Mason Apple, Cole Hayse, Dillion Lauer, Thadeus Meneses, and Aaron Okello.

“This was some of the best wrestling we’ve seen all season,” Fowler said. “We’re happy with how they did.”

On the second day of the competition, nearly half of the schools were not supposed to show up due to inclement weather. However, many of the teams showed up regardless of that.

“Competitions like this are always fun, even when the weather is rough,” Junior Anjolina Blackwell said. “Everyone did really well.”
