Ecology club, run by Science teacher Joe Brocksmith, is a club where students meet every Friday to discuss the importance of preserving and respecting the environment we live in and also plan club events. This year, Ecology Club has already been to Thies Farm in the fall and planted bulbs in the StuCo garden.

“In the future we are going to do more like going to the zoo during spring break and on Earth Day we have a trash pickup,” Brocksmith said. “We also have our end of the year picnic at Cuivre River State Park and the Stream Team float trip at the end of the year.”

Many students join Ecology Club solely because of their love for science and nature, but for the people involved, like sophomore Elizabeth Pundmann who says one of her main reasons for joining this year is because of the advisor.

“I joined Ecology Club not only because I like nature and science and learning about it, but because Brocksmith is the advisor,” Pundmann said. “I like Brocksmith because he is a really great teacher, but he is on the same level as his students which makes him good to be around.”

Ecology Club welcomes everyone who has any interest in conservation or learning about habitats and how to properly preserve them. Junior Ellen Davis has only been apart of the club for one year, but it has quickly become one of her favorite activities.

“My favorite things about Ecology Club are the people I have met and become really close with,” Davis said. “Brocksmith is a great advisor and the club doesn’t take up too much time where it becomes overwhelming.”
