On April 26, at the Old Hickory Golf Club, FHN juniors experienced their first prom and seniors, their last.

“It was a lot of fun because it was my last year,” senior Wil Skaggs said. “It was at a different venue, I really enjoyed the venue last year too, but this one was nicer, and it was almost bigger too. I loved it, it was great. It was a lot of fun being there, we stayed the whole time, we were the last ones to leave, and it was a lot of fun. We went to New Town the year before and it was fun, because you could still go outside and everything, but it just wasn’t as nice. It was in a tent, it was fun and different, but still there’s the difference between this year and last year, and I think this year was much better.”

For the class of 2019, the new venue this year was a great improvement to a lot of students. Some seniors said that this year’s prom was significantly better than last year’s, and had little to complain about- the dance went smoothly.

“I have a different opinion than a lot of people, but I really enjoyed the music, I mean I heard a lot of people didn’t but I thought it was really good, it went up and down a lot- it was very unique too,” Skaggs said, “I enjoyed the venue, it was different this year, it was fun, the food was a lot better than last year too, there was an outside area you could go to, I thought that was a lot of fun, and then I would say the friends I went with and the community made it great. I was with a fun group and we all just kinda hung out the whole time and it was a lot of fun.”

Not only did the venue improve, but some students felt that the chocolate covered strawberries, small sandwiches and drink stations were a great addition to Prom. It was little things that made that night special to many. Juniors and seniors were brought together under a night of music with popular hits like “Sweet Caroline” and “Country Roads” and of course the annual tradition of a Prom King, Queen and Court was celebrated.

“There was the court that happens every year, the whole dance floor kind of moves over, and they all walk down the aisle, which is a lot of fun to watch,” Skaggs said.

The students cleared the way in support of Prom King, Dillon Lauer, Prom Queen Jada Adkinson followed by the courts Audrey Dickherber, Noe Bustos, Mattie Shea and Adam Shine.

“I just felt honored to be picked, because I love my school and my class for that matter,” senior Prom King Dillon Lauer said.

For a lot of 2019 graduates, Prom was the last big bang before they moved on from this chapter of their lives. Senior prom is an unforgettable night for a lot of high school graduates and several students who attended this year’s prom, could agree that it was a success.

“It was a great dance overall,” Skaggs said, “I feel like everyone’s experience differs on who they go with, and how much fun they put in, because what you put into it is what you’ll get out of it too, so I feel like the people that didn’t enjoy it as much, it’s not like they didn’t want to enjoy it as much but they didn’t have that mindset of wanting to enjoy it that much so I feel like the big overall impact of dances is who they go with and how they’re feeling about it, but I went with a great group and I decided to have fun, so it was the most fun dance I’ve ever been to.”
