Black and gold day is on Saturday Aug. 24. It is a community event planned by the athletic booster club every year to showcase athletes and clubs.

“It’s just a big kick off to the school year and our sports,” Activites director Mike Janes said. “It gives a chance for clubs and organizations to sell stuff in booths for fundraising.”

There are all different kinds of activities that go on throughout the day. There is Howell North apparel, popcorn, snow cones, fun games for kids, and soccer and football scrimmages.

“The soccer scrimmages is where the kids play against each other,” Larry Scheller, the head varsity boys soccer coach said. “Freshman play against jv, jv plays against varsity, and varsity plays against varsity. Each scrimmage is about 20 minutes long.”

At black and gold day there are also performances by band, Knightline, and cheer.

“It’s been a tradition for jv to perform with varsity and they usually perform jazz, pom and hip hop.” Tammy Rokita, the knightline varsity coach said.

The whole day is planned out by a schedule. The gates open to the public at 3 p.m. and the knightsound choir will sing the National Anthem at 4 p.m. Following that, the parade of athletes will start. The parade of athletes is where all the sports line up and walk across the track. The students names will be called and they typically wave to the audience. Shortly after band, knightline and cheer will perform, then the soccer and football scrimmages will begin.

“It’s an awesome day full of fun and everyone should come,” Assistant principal Erin Steep said.”
