The annual Trick-or-Treat Street, hosted by FHN Student Council at Francis Howell North, will not occur this year due to the decline of kids showing up. Trick-or-Treat Street at North has gone on for more than ten years.

“My brother graduated ten years ago and it was even going on then,” Student Council Vice President, Brendan Gannon said. “I even attended Trick-or-Treat Street.”

Trick-or-Treat Street was held in the butterfly hallway at North and curved into the commons which held a blow-up bounce house and snacks for the participants. Each room in the butterfly hallway was held and decorated by different FHN groups, such as Student Council, Publications, NHS and HOSA.

“Little kids could go out into the hallway and go into each classroom and play games and dress up in their Halloween costumes,” Student Council President Caroline Blanke said.

This year, rather than having Trick-or-Treat Street, Student Council will be holding an International Festival. Due to many people in the community holding a Trick-or-Treat Street or a Trunk-or-Treat, the number of kids coming to Student Council’s Trick-or-Treat Street has declined each year.

“Over the past couple of years attendance has decreased, mainly due to the fact that other schools have their own events,” Gannon said. “They mainly host Trunk-or-Treats in their parking lot.”

Many of the Student Council members, along with parents and kids will miss FHN’s Trick-or-Treat Street. It was a good way to bring all of North’s clubs together in one event.

“I’ll probably miss seeing all of the little kids dressed up in their costumes, to be honest,” Blanke said. “Also seeing all those rooms come together. At North, we don’t have a lot of opportunities for clubs to unite and a place where we can all come together as one to do a school-wide event.”
