Main Street is the site of many festive holiday celebrations throughout the year. Year round, they are home to a community of stores and restaurants. However during the holiday season they add one more aspect of excitement. During the Halloween season, it’s the Legends and Lanterns festival and during the Christmas season it’s Holiday Traditions.

Holiday Traditions is an annual celebration on Main Street in St. Charles. It is a free, family friendly experience filled with a blend of history, storytelling, and fairy tale fantasy. Visitors can expect a variety of entertaining Christmas activities as well as shopping. As you walk along Main Street, you can shop in many of the local stores and enjoy the festivities. Lastly, you can enjoy the structures adorned with Christmas lights and decorations.

Holiday Traditions is best known for their adored tradition of collecting cards. As you walk you may run into various Christmas characters. You might run into anyone from Father Christmas to Ebenezer Scrooge. You can ask for their card and they’ll tell you the history of their character and what they represent. This year there are 39 characters and the goal is to collect all of them.

Main Street Holiday Traditions has been a tradition for 45 seasons and plans to continue into years to come. This year they are celebrating their 45 year milestone, but they are also celebrating another anniversary. Main Street is commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the city of St. Charles.

As for when you can go and enjoy the festivities, they are only open a few days a week. The opening day was November 29 and they continue until December 24.
