The Francis Howell North football team started to show some upside this season by winning more than one game for the first time since the 2017-18 season. Their final record being 2-8.

With the new school construction having to tear down the stadium, all home games this season were played at Francis Howell Central.

The first home game the team played was against The Oakville Tigers which resulted in a 34-29 win for the Knights. In the first period, the Knights were able to get 7 points on the board early and were also able to keep the Tigers from the end-zone. In the second period The Knights struck first, but the Tigers were quick to return the favor. In the third period the Tigers were able to close the gap with two touchdowns while the knights were only able to put up one, and missed the extra point. In the fourth period, down by one, the Knights were determined to secure the win. The Knights would mirror the Tigers last quarter putting up two touchdowns and only allowing the Tigers one. Coming out with this win would show some potential this season.

Unfortunately, the Knights would then go on a losing streak of six. Only two of those games were a one score loss.

The Knights wouldn’t be able to pull in another win until they played an away game against the Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs. Both teams tallied a scoreless first period. In the second period, the Knights struck first and never looked back. After letting the Bulldogs get a touchdown and extra point, the Knights held them to seven until the fourth period. Junior Ian Kelly would lead the team with three touchdowns in the Knights 44-21 win.

This season was a showout season for junior wide receiver Kelly. Kelly led the team in touchdowns with ten, in rushing yards with 556, in receiving yards with 166 and multiple other stats as well. (stats according to stlhighschoolsports.com)

“I’m hoping to continue what I’ve been doing, putting up good stats, competing at a high level and winning games my senior season,” Kelly said.
