The Varsity girls began their 2021-2022 season on Tuesday, November 23. The North knights faced off against Francis Howell Central as their season opener, and hope to start off the season in a positive way with a win against one of their biggest rivals.

“We are playing Central for our first game, which is exciting since they are like our rival school and that was the last game we played last year,” sophomore Kendra Swope said.

“We lost to them last year so we use that as some extra motivation to go out there and win.”

The girls team has gone through many changes this year as many of the players last season were seniors, meaning this season many new girls have been called up and existing players on varsity must now step up and become new leaders for the team. The team captain this year is Senior Hannah Ermeling who has been on varsity since her freshman year and has earned her way up to a starter.

“I’m really excited to be a leader for my team, it’s really fun to be looked up to and to help lead others,” Ermeling said. “I hope with this new team we can have a lot of success this year and build upon what we did well last season.

The season has more than 20 games to be played and possibly more in post season tournaments such as districts. The team’s goal is to make it as far as they possibly can into the season and in the end walk away with a winning record and good experiences between the girls.

“It’s inspiring to be a good player with my teammates and have good relationships with them and make unforgettable memories,” freshman Addie Butler said. “ Working hard at practice and games is what’s going to make us successful this season and I’m so excited to get started.”
