With a team record of 10-3 and most of the athletes ending the season with a positive record, the 2021-2022 wrestling season has been one of the best North has ever had. With two athletes, Seniors Jaiden Frey and Mason Apple, making the season has been a memorable one by going to state.

“I was really impressed with the boys this season,” Head Coach Chris Brown said. “Mason Apple finished 6th in state with a 38-8 record which is really impressive and a big achievement.”

With a good amount of seniors leaving this year, it’s up to juniors like Chad Blanke to lead the upcoming season. With a 3rd place placement at the Cape Central tournament, Blanke is familiar with what it takes to succeed.

“It sucks that I got injured and had to miss some of the season but I can’t wait to come back next year,” Blanke said. “We got a nice group next year, from the people we already have to the incoming freshman so I think we can keep this momentum going and it’s awesome I get to help lead it.”

This season also marked the first time in history that North’s wrestling team both beat FHC and FHH at a meet in the same year. With a 39-38 win over Central and and a 40-30 win over Howell, the boys set a standard for the rest of the district to follow.

“Besides sending a couple of our athletes to state, my favorite memory from the season is definitely us beating both of the other Howells in the same year for the first time ever,” Brown said. “These boys did so great this season and I’m proud of them all and I can’t wait to see how next year goes. I hope more people come out next year and join the most award winning program at our school.”
