As the new school year kicks off, an entire class of students are joining the ranks here at Francis Howell North High School. If you’re a freshman, or even just new to the school, here are some tips and tricks to help you get started on the right foot.

Don’t worry about getting lost, it happens to everyone. Any teacher will be glad to point students in the right direction and there are signs on the walls pointing in the direction of different room numbers. Bonus, all tardies are excused during the first week of school.

Talk to people. There are more people who have been going to North than those who haven’t, so asking questions or starting a conversation is an easy way to make friends (or get a feel for who you don’t want to be friends with).

Get involved. Joining a club or sport as an easy way to meet new people and do things that you find fun or interesting, even at school. Emily Hood talks about getting involved, study tips, and more in one of her episodes of The Hood Report.

Use your resources. An easy place to find everything you need is through the FHNtoday app, in the app store and google play store. It has links to maps of the school, teacher contact information, study games, and more.

For more information, check out last year’s freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior guides or stop by the journalism rooms 105 or 131, there are plenty of people willing to help out new students, just ask.
