On Oct. 21, Taylor Swift released her tenth studio album “Midnights”, sending us Swifties into a frenzy. The album has 13 songs and takes a little over 44 minutes to finish and quickly became one of the most streamed albums on spotify. It became the most streamed album in 24 hours, most first-day streamed album, most female artist in one week (United States only), and fastest selling vinyl album (United States only). Taylor also broke another record by becoming the first artist to ever have 10 songs occupy all top ten spots at once on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s needless to say that this album was received well from Swifties around the World, but how good is the album really? Of course Swifties love the album but how will this album set the stage for other upcoming albums and how does it compare to her others?

“Midnights” is a mix of amazing, sing your heart out songs, and songs you play in the background while doing your homework. While every song is good, some just stand out more than others and some sound the same. There’s one song that feels like it doesn’t fit within the theme of the album to me and that is “You’re On Your Own, Kid”. The song is really good and has a great message but the rest of the songs on the album have a sort of dark and low sound to them and this song is more upbeat and light. Some songs like “Sweet Nothing” are forgettable to me and easy to drown out. One song is way overhyped and that is “Bejeweled”, it’s just way too repetitive and annoying and not good enough to be as overplayed as it is. “Mastermind” is the most relatable song to me because a lot of the time I feel as crazy as Taylor does in this song when trying to set things up perfectly in my life. My personal favorite is “Vigilante Shit” because I feel like I can scream that song at the top of my lungs. The song just pumps me up and is so empowering.

This album feels like a turning point in Taylor’s career. It feels like her last albums have been leading up to this moment where she is finally able to express the feelings she has had for a while. I think the future looks bright for Taylor especially if she keeps up with album’s that are freeing for her and empowering for her young fan base. While it’s not my personal favorite album (that’s “1989” her best album, there are absolutely no skips and every song is amazing), it is definitely one of her best.
